Guide
You need Shorts every week and keep seeing 'clipping agent'
A clipping agent is whoever you hand a finished episode to so that short, captioned clips come back ready to post. The term covers a freelancer, a studio and a website with an upload form, and what they share is the hand-off: one episode goes in, clips and the pieces around them come out. If your show films every week, the question is whether that hand-off stays light enough to repeat without adding work to your side.

What a clipping agent is
A clipping agent is the party you give a whole episode to so that clips come back cut, captioned and ready to post. People use the term for a freelancer, for a studio and for a website with an upload form, and the searches 'clipping websites' and 'edit clips website' land in the same place. The word 'agent' means someone acting for you: you supply the long recording and the choices about what matters in it, and they supply the clips.
The word says nothing about quality or speed, so the questions to ask are the same whoever sits behind the form: what do you have to send, what arrives, how fast does it arrive, and what happens when a clip needs a fix.
What you hand over for each episode
One finished episode, as a file or a link to where it lives. If you film with two cameras or record a guest on a call, send the version you would publish, with both people visible, so the framing can follow whoever is talking. The only other thing worth adding is a short note for that episode: how each guest name is spelled, a moment you want kept, and any topic or time range to leave out.
With Ship Your Pod that note is one optional box on the upload form, 'Anything we should know?', and it covers that episode only. Names you want spelled right every week go in Settings > Spelling once and carry forward from the next episode on. Write any leave-out request fresh for each episode; the box does not remember last week's note, and there is no setting for a rule that repeats.
- Guest names, spelled the way the guest spells them
- One moment you already know you want as a Short
- A topic or time range to leave out, with the rough timestamp
- Nothing else: a long brief slows you down and adds little
What comes back
Expect a set of Shorts, each with a score, a rank and a plain reason it was picked, so you can start at the top and stop when you have enough for the week. Alongside them: teasers for the full episode, thumbnails pulled from real frames of your footage, a title, a description, chapter marks, and post text written for each platform. A safety check lists anything in a clip that could cause trouble, with the reason, so you decide before it goes out.
Inside each clip, framing follows the person speaking and splits the screen when two people talk at once, captions appear word by word and match the words that were said, dead air and filler are trimmed, and the voice is cleaned up. On Ship Your Pod this lands on a private page you can open on your phone, with an email to say it is there, within a day on Starter and the same day on Pro, with a rush add-on when you need it sooner.
- Ranked Shorts, each with a reason
- Teasers for the full episode
- Thumbnails from real frames
- Title, description and chapters
- Post text for each platform
- A safety check with reasons
What to check before you post
A clip that arrives ready still gets two minutes from you, since your name is on the post. Watch the first three seconds with the sound off: the caption should read as a hook on its own. Check each guest name in the caption and the title, check that the framing is on the person talking, and read the safety note if there is one.
If something is off, send a change request in plain words: 'end it two seconds earlier', 'drop the part about the dog', 'the name is Kai with an i'. On Ship Your Pod that is the 'Change this' button on each clip; Starter includes a few changes per episode and Pro has no limit.
- First three seconds with the sound off
- Guest names in caption and title
- Framing on the speaker
- Where the clip ends
- Safety note, if any
- Your handle on the end card
Does the hand-off fit a weekly show?
It fits if the three things you own each week stay small: uploading the file, reading the delivery, and posting. Pick a fixed posting day, film and upload at least two days before it, and the clips sit waiting on your phone with room for a change request. Pro's same day turnaround makes a two day gap comfortable; Starter's one day turnaround asks you to film a little earlier.
Posting stays with you. The clips come back on a private page you open from your phone, and nothing is scheduled or published on your behalf, so a clip you dislike never leaves that page.
Things a clipping agent leaves to you
Posting to each platform, choosing which clips run and in what order, and replying to comments are yours. So are any decisions that repeat week to week, since each episode is handled on its own: a note about leaving out ad reads has to be written again next time, and there is no step where you approve a clip before it is cut. If you want a guest to post too, 'Share with your guest' gives them a read-only copy of the clips, and they post from their own account.
Captions show the words spoken without a label for who said them, so when two voices need to be told apart on screen, the split screen framing does that job. For anything beyond what arrives, such as a long compilation or a separate audio file, plan to use whatever you already use for the full episode.
Where Ship Your Pod fits
If the editing is the part that keeps you from posting, send the episode instead. 8 to 15 Shorts come back within a day (same day on Pro), captioned, scored and ranked best first, with teasers, thumbnails from real frames, and the title, description and chapters. You post them yourself, full quality, no watermark. Pro is $149 a month for 12 episodes, 15 Shorts each, plus the Facebook cuts, the newsletter and the article. Starter is $59 a month for 4 episodes. The price goes down every month you stay. Month to month, cancel any time. Pro has a 14-day free trial for your first episode.
Pro: up to 180 Shorts, 36 teasers, 60 thumbnails and 24 Facebook cuts a month (12 episodes, 15 Shorts from each). Starter: up to 32 Shorts, 8 teasers and 12 thumbnails a month (4 episodes, 8 Shorts from each).
Before your next recording, write down how each guest name is spelled and one moment you want kept, upload the episode with that note, and judge the clips that come back on their first three seconds.
Questions
Is a clipping website the same thing as a clipping agent?
For your purposes, yes: both take a finished episode from you and return clips. A website puts a form in front of the hand-off and a freelancer puts an email thread in front of it. Judge either on what you send, what returns, how fast, and how fixes work.
How long should an episode be to get enough Shorts?
Send the episode at whatever length you already record. Each Short comes back scored and ranked with a reason, so you start at the top of the list and stop when you have what you want for the week, and the reasons tell you which kinds of moments carried best when you plan the next recording.
Do I have to film vertical for Shorts?
No. Send the episode as you filmed it, landscape included, and each clip is cropped to whoever is speaking, with a split screen when two people talk at once.
What if a clip spells a guest name wrong?
Send a change request on that clip with the correct spelling, then add the name to Settings > Spelling so captions, hooks and titles from the next episode on get it right. For the current episode, the fix is the 'Anything we should know?' box before you upload.
