Guide

You Interviewed a Guest. Now Which Clips Do You Both Post?

Clip the moments where your guest says something specific and complete, and leave out anything they asked to keep off the record. Send them the clips before you post. Tag them by their exact handle, spell their name right in the captions, and give them their own copies so they can post from their account too.

Pick moments that stand on their own

Most people who see a Short never heard the question that came before it. The best interview clips start on the guest's answer and still make sense: a firm opinion, a story with a turn in it, a concrete answer to a how question, or a moment where you and the guest disagree.

If a clip needs thirty seconds of your setup before it lands, find a later start point or pick a different moment. A clip that opens on the guest saying something definite gives a stranger a reason to keep watching.

Clip the guest at their best

Your guest will share the clips that make them look sharp. Skip moments where they lose their train of thought, misstate a figure, or get a fact wrong and fix it later in the episode, because the clip will carry the mistake and leave out the correction.

Give the guest most of the screen time across the set. If every clip opens on you asking a long question, the guest has little reason to post them.

Agree on what stays out of clips

Ask before you record whether there is anything the guest wants kept out of clips, and ask again when you finish. Guests often say something in the flow of a conversation that they are happy to have in the full episode and would prefer to keep out of a short clip that travels on its own.

Write those topics and rough times down the same day. With Ship Your Pod, put the topic or time range in the "Anything we should know?" box when you send the episode and it is left out. That box covers one episode only, so if the guest comes back for another episode, write the note again.

Show your guest the clips before you post

Sending the clips to your guest first heads off awkward takedown requests and gives them a stake in how the clips go out. Send the set, say which ones you plan to post and roughly when, and ask them to flag anything within a few days.

Ship Your Pod has no approval step before delivery, so this check happens after the clips arrive. Share the clips with the guest, then use Change this on any clip to drop a part, cut it differently or fix a word. Nothing goes out until you choose to post it.

Spell the name right and tag the right account

A misspelled name in the captions makes a guest hesitate to share. Ask for the exact spelling of their name, their company and any terms they use often, and get their handle for each platform, since handles often differ from one platform to the next.

Put the guest's handle in the post text and their full name in the title or first line, so viewers who like the clip can find them. In Ship Your Pod, guest names written in the "Anything we should know?" box are spelled right in that episode's captions, hooks and titles. Names and terms that come up in many episodes belong in Settings > Spelling, which applies from the next episode on.

Give your guest their own copies

A guest who has to screen record your post ends up with a blurry copy, and many will skip posting altogether. Send them the finished clips directly and tell them plainly that they are free to post from their own account.

Ship Your Pod has a Share with your guest option that gives the guest a read-only copy to post. The captions are the words actually said, so the guest can check them against what they remember saying.

Decide who posts what, and when

Agree on a simple plan before anything goes live. Let the guest pick the one or two clips they want for their own account, since they know what their followers respond to, and stagger your posts by a day or so if you both use the same clip.

Put the plan in one short message so both of you are working from the same list.

Where Ship Your Pod fits

If the editing is the part that keeps you from posting, send the episode instead. 8 to 15 Shorts come back within a day (same day on Pro), captioned, scored and ranked best first, with teasers, quotes and per-Short titles and post text. You post them yourself, full quality, no watermark. Pro is $149 a month for 12 episodes, 15 Shorts each, plus teasers, quotes and per-platform post text. Starter is $59 a month for 4 episodes. The price goes down every month you stay. Month to month, cancel any time. Pro has a 14-day free trial for your first episode.

Pro: up to 180 Shorts and 36 teasers a month, from 12 episodes. Starter: up to 32 Shorts and 8 teasers a month, from 4 episodes.

Before your next interview, ask the guest for the spelling of their name, their handles and anything to keep out of clips. Then send them the finished clips and a short posting plan before you post anything.

Questions

Do I need a guest's permission to post clips from their interview?

Check your guest release or recording agreement, since that sets the terms. Even when you have the right to post, sending the clips to the guest first is a simple courtesy that heads off takedown requests.

How many clips should I make from one guest episode?

Make as many as the episode has strong standalone moments. A long, lively conversation gives you more than a short, cautious one. Offer the guest a few to choose from so you are each posting something you like.

Should I tag the guest or add them as a collaborator on the post?

Tag their handle in the post text on every platform. If the platform lets you add the guest as a collaborator, ask them first, because the post will then appear on their profile too.

What should I do if a guest asks me to take a clip down?

Take it down promptly and ask which part bothered them. It is often a single line, and a recut that drops that line may give you a clip you can both live with.
