Nursing podcasts

You record after a twelve hour shift. The last thing you want is video to cut.

Nurses listen in the car, in the break room and during the ten minutes before a shift, and they find new shows from clips a coworker sent. A full episode about a bad night on the floor will not get opened at the nurses' station, but a clip where a guest says the thing everyone thinks will. In this niche a good clip is a nurse recognising their own week in someone else's voice.

What gets in the way

Send the episode; the clips come back cut, captioned and ranked. That is the whole job on your side.

The moments that travel

The thing nobody in orientation saidNew grads share any clip that tells them what the first year on the floor is actually like.
The charge nurse decisionA guest walking through how they handled a short-staffed night is useful to every nurse who has had one.
The patient who stayed with youA carefully anonymised story about a patient who changed how a nurse works lands harder than any advice.
The specialty switchHow and why someone moved from med-surg to ICU, or bedside to education, answers a question most nurses are quietly asking.
The boundary with a doctorA nurse describing how they pushed back on an order, respectfully and correctly, gets saved and rewatched.

What we leave out

Never clip a story that could identify a patient through age, diagnosis, timing, location or anything else that combines into a person, even if the guest changed the name. Also avoid cutting any clinical instruction into a standalone clip where the caveats, the context and the "check your own facility's policy" are gone. Every clip comes with a safety check and its reasons, and nothing goes out until you post it.

Questions

How do you handle patient privacy when choosing clips?

You see every clip before anything is posted and nothing goes anywhere until you post it yourself, so a story with identifying detail can simply stay unposted on your page. If a guest's segments should never be clipped, leave them out of the file you upload.

A lot of my episodes are venting about staffing. Will clips just make me look like I am trashing my hospital?

Clips are scored and ranked for the moment that is useful or recognisable to other nurses, with a plain reason for each so you can see why it was picked. Anything that reads like trashing your hospital can be dropped or cut differently with "Change this", and nothing posts unless you post it.

I record on my phone in scrubs after a shift. Does that work?

Yes. Nurses tend to trust a nurse who looks like they just got off work, and good light with clear audio matters more than a studio.
