Parenting podcasts

You recorded the episode during nap time. Clips should not eat bedtime.

Parents do not have an hour to audition a new podcast; they have the length of a school pickup line. A clip of a guest saying the thing about toddlers or teenagers that nobody at the playground says is what gets forwarded to a group chat. That forward is how your show spreads.

What gets in the way

Send the episode; the clips come back cut, captioned and ranked. That is the whole job on your side.

The moments that travel

The permission slipA guest says it is fine to do the thing the viewer feels guilty about.
The script that workedThe exact words a parent used in a meltdown, short enough to memorise.
Expert disagrees with the bookA pediatrician, teacher or sleep consultant quietly contradicts popular advice.
The stage specific gut punchSomething only parents of newborns, or only parents of teenagers, will instantly recognise.
The laugh of recognitionA story about a child's logic that every parent has lived through.

What we leave out

Leave out any clip that shows a child's face, name, school or bedroom when the parent has not agreed to that on camera, and be careful with medical and sleep advice that depends on the age the guest named. A sentence about discipline or screens can sound cruel or reckless without the ten seconds of context before it, so the context stays in. Every clip comes with a safety check and its reasons, and nothing goes out until you post it.

Questions

My co-host is my partner and our kids wander into shots. Can you keep them out of clips?

There is no rule you can set in advance, but every clip arrives on your private page before it goes anywhere, so you can check each one. If a child wanders in, use Change this to drop that part or cut it differently, and nothing is posted until you choose.

Guests often give advice for one age and it reads badly for another. How do you handle that?

The age or stage stays in the caption or the first line of the clip, so a tip about a four year old is never served as a tip about a fourteen year old.

Can clips be matched to the themes parents search for, like sleep, screens or sibling fights?

Each clip comes with a title and description based on what is actually said, so when the episode is about sleep or screens, that is what the clip is named for. You post everything yourself, so you can adjust any title to the problem it solves before it goes up.
